Composition Ingredients

- Synthetic Resin: It is the main component of thermoplastic road marking paint, such as rosin and its derivative modified resins, petroleum resins, polyester resins, etc. It has adhesive properties and quick-drying characteristics, enabling the paint to adhere to the road surface and bond through hot melting.
- Glass Beads: Usually with a diameter of 0.1-1.4 millimeters, they are colorless and transparent. They can improve the recognizability of the markings at night, enhance brightness and durability, and also protect the markings from wear.
- Pigments: Mainly white and yellow, such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, heat-resistant chrome yellow, organic yellow pigments, iron oxide, etc., which play a role in coloring and covering.
- Fillers: Such as calcium carbonate, sand, etc., which can ensure the mechanical strength, wear resistance, and color of the paint. The particle size of the fillers will affect the fluidity, sedimentation degree, and surface finishing of the paint.
- Additives: They can increase the plasticity of the coating, making it resistant to sedimentation, pollution, and fading.

Steps to Apply Thermoplastic Paint:

1. Surface Preparation:

   • Clean the road surface thoroughly to remove dirt, debris, oil, or any other contaminants. This can be done using brooms, air blowers, or even pressure washers.
   • If the surface is damaged or rough, it may need repair before applying the paint.

2. Heating the Paint:

   • Thermoplastic paint is solid at room temperature and needs to be melted. Using a pre-heating kettle, heat the paint to the recommended temperature (typically around 180–200°C or 356–392°F).
   • The paint should be kept at a consistent temperature for optimal application.

3. Application of Paint:

   • Once the paint is at the proper temperature, it is applied using an applicator. This can be a hand-held device for small areas or a machine for larger road surfaces.
   • The paint should be applied evenly, ensuring the correct thickness (usually around 1.5–3 mm).
   • Apply the paint quickly as it starts to cool and harden once it is on the surface.

4. Incorporating Reflective Glass Beads (Optional but recommended):

   • For added visibility, especially at night, reflective glass beads can be sprinkled onto the paint while it is still hot.
   • The beads help improve the reflectivity of the markings, enhancing road safety.

5. Cooling and Setting:

   • Allow the thermoplastic paint to cool and set. The drying time is relatively quick, but it’s important to ensure the markings are firm and fully adhered to the surface before allowing traffic to pass.

6. Inspection and Final Touches:

   • Check the applied markings for uniformity and coverage.
   • If necessary, touch up any spots or areas where the application may have been uneven.
